They are jumping right into virtualization. Their biggest concern is they are hitting the limits of their colos power envelope before they start getting charged. They are going to reduce their server footprint by about half and hopefully save some power as well. I’ll be tracking this however feel free to watch form Anandtech directly.
Faced with mounting debt and looming costs from the new federal health-care law, many local governments are leaving the hospital business, shedding public facilities that can be the caregiver of last resort.
All you Self-employed or SMB folks read up. The new credit card regulations do NOT apply to you so get ready for the banskters to s art ripping you off as well. If you don’t have a “professional” card get ready to see a flood of credit card offers. Do what I have done and stay away from these altogether.
Following the release of over 90,000 documents by Wikileaks in July, the Pentagon found no evidence that the disclosure harmed U.S. national security or endangered American troops in the field. The Pentagon review team consists of military intelligence analysts, lawyers and others working for the Joint Chiefs of Staffs and other elements of the Defense Department.
It was actually an idea floated by the economist whose failed theories haunt us today. Read the linked article for more. It’s getting closer folks..one world currency..etc etc etc.
It’s not about tracking or expenses..at least not for the teacher’s union..look at the italicized text below. They don’t want to tie teacher’s evals to student performance. Well if your students are doing poorly it’s either the school’s fault or the teacher’s fault. I think this would give teacher’s the motivation they need to actually advocate for students instead of themselves or step aside and let some teachers that relaly care about their students in. It’s not hard to find story after story about how “poorly performing” schools get turned around once the lazy, uncaring teachers get out(and this includes the administrative staff) and some truly caring folks step in.
The Frederick County Teachers Association was not in support of the program because several of its initiatives strive to tie teacher evaluations to student achievement.
Board member Angie Fish, a Montgomery County Public Schools teacher, voiced her concern that struggling students would be the ones to pay the price if teacher evaluations were based on student achievement. She worried the system’s best teachers would abandon poorly performing schools. Teachers would want to work only with the system’s most able students.
AND THEY ARE WRONG! If you are in this country illegally you have the right to remain silent…and get deported or jailed. That’s because if you are here illegally you are a criminal! You aren’t even a citizen of this country…or have a valid passport or visa, etc etc etc..you are here “without documentation”..aka illegally! This means you don’t have any rights except to get out either by yourself or with the help of law enforcement.
On Wednesday, the Equal Rights Center, a national nonprofit civil rights organization based in Washington, spoke to about two dozen students of various nationalities at an English as a Second Language class at Trinity United about the rights the law provides for all immigrants to the United States.”The people need to hear that you have rights, even if you dont have documents,” Rivera said.
The gov’t is going tos tart converting your 401k to bonds. Guess what happens when the US debt load(currently at over 25 trillion or more) get too big? The gov’t defaults on the bonds and your retirement is worth bupkis. Karl Denninger over at the market ticker called this last year that this nonsense would be starting. I’ve been advising my wife based on Karl’s impressive record for accuracy to put as little to nothing into that 401k as possible. It is now time to get out of 401k’s altogether. I started a forum thread over on the ticker’s site…let’s see what goes on over there.
If you ahve any eggs in cartons with the following brands you may be under this important safety recall…that continues to expand.
What are the needs that this server can address?
At this time the church’s website is hosted by powweb on their free package for non profits. Unfortunately their e-mail services are horrendously unreliable. We have a business class internet connection with a static ip. We have more than enough outgoing bandwidth to handle e-mail. While Google apps are available I don’t trust the cloud enough to host a NPO’s e-mail. Now the decision is what mail server am I going to run? Ms Exchange is one option…however i don’t want to be handcuffed to the office/outlook/exchange lock-in. I am a huge fan of Linux and I use it everywhere I can. I need the ability for the users to have Exchange functionality without having to be handcuffed to Outlook. Ideally I would want to do everything inside a web browser. There’s several options just read the list here. I don’t want to pay for a software package that runs on top of a free operating system. I also require the software to integrate with my currently installed Active Directory. Out of all of the choices I chose Zimbra. I made this choice due to the cost, available features, low system requirements, and overall reliability. The ability to use shared contacts, calendar, and even inboxes are available in the free version. I know of one large deployment at my wife’s employer…while it wasn’t done in a particularly good way it still just works. While Zimbra has it’s own anti-spam and a/v I’m going to use my firewall’s spam and malware filtering as it’s quite powerful and already tweaked. Also everything at a base level is done through a web browser which means i don’t have to use the outlook monstrosity. While the interface is different retraining isn’t going to be that painful.
You can read about the donation here. I have three IBM x335’s on the way with dual p-4 xeon 2.8 ghz cpu’s, dual 36 gig 10k rpm SCSI drives with hardware raid 1, 4 gigs of ram, all the cables needed including ILO, and rails. All for the cost of shipping. Why am I posting about it here? I run the network at my church. This will be the first time I can start something like this from the ground up and document what I do, how I do it, and what hardware and software I do it with. I will also be able to show just how much free software can do and still integrate with an established Active Directory layout as well. It’s something for other potential NPO clients to be able to see what some creative thinking can accomplish for little or no cost…:) Stay tuned I’ve created a whole new category for this..:)
Faith Baptist Church has been needing some technology help for a bit now. I’ve gotten to the point I do what I can but I know God is going to provide. Up comes the past week and a friend of mine in Seattle Washington. His employer, WTS Inc., is decommissioning a ton of p-4 based IBM x335 machines. Him and his employer are graciously going to donate three of the machines to the church. This is going to help us tremendously. I wanted to make sure I said Thank You to Talon and WTS inc for their ability and willingness to help FBC in our time of need..:) Head over to eccmd.com for details on what I am going to do with these machines and how I do it..:)
Guess what? The “criminals” are going to be able to decrypt the communications anyway so hiding the transmissions does nothing. All this does is how the contempt you have for the general public.
Safety is an issue with the current communication system for two reasons, Debord wrote. The dead zones are one reason. The other is the new system will have the ability to encrypt, or prevent the communication between 911 operators and emergency personnel from being heard by the general public.
“Anyone with a scanner can monitor police activities on the current system,” Debord said. “This is an officer-safety issue because sometimes criminals use scanners to ‘listen in’ on our activities.”
If you look at the linked graphic you’ll see AVG proudly near the top with Symantec and Macafee much lower. Microsoft Security Essentials isn’t high on the chart either..wow. So if you really want an anti-something i would go with AVG for both home and business use at this point. If you head here you can see that Macafee actually failed this test. Symantec passed however i can tell you from personal experience I wouldn’t run it as i have had to clean up many machines with Symantec installed..:)
I know this works for Comcast customers. I do not know if this is going to work for other providers. They had a great run. They got drubbed the last time they played this team. I think Brunswick did a great job in this season. I’m anxious to see what happens next year. Congratulations to the entire team for their great run this year.
I could not have summed this up any better. Thank you for this letter
Gen jsut won an 8 gig Ipod touch from work. All I can say is…..GREEN!..:)
My trusty rumor now has the offs. It just decides it’s done and turns off. This is not a graceful shutoff either it’s like i pulled the battery off. It’s getting to the point the phone is getting very unreliable and difficult to use. However I really can’t afford the data plan at $150/month for my three line family plan…so I have to settle on something that’ll work.. just not what I want. As I mentioned on ECCmd.com about this..it’s a total scam. I’ve tried to find ways around it..there’s just not one. Not even the prepaid services are worth a crap in this regard as they would cost me 50/month more than i am paying now. Time to go phone shopping..:)
The engine essentially locks up right after leaving the fire house requiring a shutdown and restart. Makes you wonder if it was running a MS operating system…:) IF I heard of this happening to one of our engines or any first responder gear I would have some direct questions for the station staff.
